North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has visited Sir John Talbot’s School in Whitchurch after an invite from pupils campaigning on mental health awareness and support.

The One Voice group, made up of pupils from Year 7 to Year 13, had invited Helen to answer questions and discuss their work on the issue at the school.

The MP has previously called for action over the state of mental health services in rural areas, after the publication of an Environment and Rural Affairs Committee report finding isolation, poor public transport and a relative lack of digital connectivity were part of a ‘pattern where rural communities’ needs are not fully reflected’ in the provision of services.

She has praised the ‘exceptionally eloquent questions’ and ‘valuable insight’ gained from the discussion.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, said, “It was useful as ever to visit Sir John Talbot's School and Sixth Form and to hear from teachers and pupils alike.

“A big thank you in particular to the One Voice group, who are students from Year 7 to Year 13 working hard to support mental health awareness in their school. Their invite was much appreciated and has helped provide some valuable insights.

“I found it very interesting to hear about their experiences and answer their exceptionally eloquent questions. They are doing some really great work.”
