Hundreds of thousands of rural homes are getting less Government support with their energy bills than those in urban areas. In Shropshire, there are 25,000 off-grid households that rely on oil or LPG to heat their homes as they do not have a mains gas supply.

Unlike gas supplies, the Government has refused to introduce price caps on domestic heating oil or LPG. All it is offering is a one-off Alternative Fuel Payment of £200. If you're an off-grid household but you're not getting this automatically via your electricity bill, see how to apply here.
