Helen Morgan MP said Shropshire had been “failed by the Conservatives” and is now being “let down by Labour” after a spending review that failed to mention rural areas.

The Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson also criticised the lack of a serious plan to fix social care in Rachel Reeves’ announcement which failed to include any reference to rural areas.

Instead, the Chancellor focused her announcements on large towns and cities which are target areas for her Labour Party.

In Shropshire, issues with social care are contributing to huge delays for NHS services and eating up more than 80% of the council’s budget.

The Liberal Democrats want the Government’s review of social care to be finished within the year so that long-overdue reforms can be put in place. Meanwhile the party is calling for support for local businesses through reform of the business rates system and scrapping of the national insurance contributions hike.

Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said, “People in Shropshire were failed by the Conservatives and now they are being let down by Labour.

“The spending review included nothing for Shropshire, nothing for rural areas and no serious plan to fix social care.

“The NHS and council services will not be fixed until social care is sorted and growth will not be achieved until the Government backs small businesses.

“Rachel Reeves promised growth but all she has delivered is disappointment.”
