Helen pledges to work even harder after hectic year since election

Helen Morgan has vowed to keep fighting for North Shropshire after a busy year since the general election where the MP spoke 178 times in Parliament and dealt with 7,500 constituent cases.
The North Shropshire MP has proven herself to be one of the most active Members of Parliament, voting 165 times and tabling 431 written questions to Government Ministers since July 2024.
Recent highlights include successfully saving Oswestry Post Office from closure, forcing the Government into reinstating winter fuel payments for pensioners and joining local farmers in Westminster to protest against the family farm tax.
Since being re-elected Helen has continued her campaign for improved transport links in Shropshire and has worked tirelessly to demand better healthcare, questioning Secretary of State Wes Streeting on numerous occasions and being made the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Health and Social Care.
She has met Government ministers about a host of North Shropshire problems – from transport to sport to hospital care to schools and support for veterans – and has taken a raft of local campaigns to Parliament, presenting a petition on Post Offices and tabling law changes that would ensure better bus services and banking provisions for rural areas.
Meanwhile Helen has set up new cross-party groups on flooding and digital connectivity where she works with MPs from across the House to investigate and address key issues affecting rural areas.
Helen has repeatedly highlighted how both Conservative and Labour governments have let rural areas down and the MP is determined to force better from Ministers over the coming years.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said, “It’s been a busy 12 months but I am determined to do even more to stand up for North Shropshire over the years ahead.
“It’s been great to see local communities come together on campaigns like saving Oswestry Post Office and sorting out Shropshire’s transport links.
“Labour and the Conservatives continue to ignore rural areas like Shropshire so it’s crucial that MPs like me do all we can to demand better.
“I will always do everything possible to support my constituents and will keep banging the drum for North Shropshire in Parliament.”
