Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, has responded to a nationwide poll showing 61% of people are worried about dangerously long waits for A&E and ambulances.
Helen said, “It’s completely understandable that people are worried about ambulance and A&E waits, which are indeed dangerously long here in Shropshire.
“West Midlands Ambulance Service has been red flagging this for more than a year and moved the risk rating for handover delays to the highest possible level last October and yet the Government has still not got a grip on this crisis.
“People are punished for living in rural areas like North Shropshire by having to wait almost twice as long for an ambulance than those in nearby urban areas like Birmingham.
“That’s why I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues have repeatedly called for response times to be published by postcode so that resources can be targeted to the areas in need.
“Meanwhile over 40 per cent of patients are having to wait more than four hours to get seen at A&Es in Shrewsbury and Telford – a situation which could well get worse as winter approaches.
“Hardworking paramedics, doctors and nurses should not be blamed for this. It is time the Conservatives took the health of the nation seriously and started remembering that families in rural areas deserve to be looked after just as much as those living in cities.”
