Supporting our Farmers
How Helen is standing up for our farming communities
Helen Morgan represents one of the most rural constituencies in England. Farming is an important part of rural communities but these communities have been let down by both the last Conservative Government and the current Labour Government.
Helen has been a strong voice in Westminster, highlighting the battles that farming communities are facing in North Shropshire and beyond. These are some of the things Helen has been standing up for them on:
- Helen spoke up for farmers in Parliament when the Basic Payment Scheme was being phased out but the replacement schemes were not yet in place, causing a real headache for farmers.
- Helen highlighted the rocketing costs faced by farmers when they were hit by the double-whammy of increasing supply costs (such as fertiliser and animal feed) and escalating fuel costs.
- Helen was one of the first members of Parliament to challenge the Labour Government over their inheritance tax changes (known the Family Farm Tax) that would have forced small family farms to sell up after the death of the family member whose name the farm was in.
- Helen and the Liberal Democrats have been leading the battle against trade deals that put our farmers on the back foot by allowing imports from countries with lower animal welfare standards.
Helen continues to stand up for North Shropshire’s farming families and the rural way of life.
